We are pleased to announce that Samuel C. Peter, Ph.D. will present two webinars in June.

Dr. Peter is a clinical psychologist working for the Durham VA Health Care System in Durham, North Carolina. He received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Memphis in 2021, with a specialty focus area in addiction and trauma research. His research has generally focused on the experience of gambling disorder, the effectiveness of psychotherapy, and factors related to engagement in helping services for trauma and addiction-related concerns.

Description: The aim of this session is to provide a broad introduction to gambling behavior and gambling disorder. It is designed to be appropriate for anyone, regardless of their baseline level of familiarity with these topics. It is meant to increase competence recognizing and discussing gambling, particularly how to recognize when gambling behavior might be problematic, and how to connect individuals with helping resources.
Learning objectives:

- Define and recognize gambling behaviors and opportunities;
- Recognize the difference between safe/recreational gambling, risky gambling, and gambling disorder;
- Understand the symptoms of gambling disorder and mental health outcomes it correlates with;
- Know how to screen individuals for gambling problems and strategies for successfully referring them to treatment.

Description: The aim of this session is to teach specific evidence based psychological intervention strategies for the treatment of gambling disorder. It is geared towards mental health treatment providers. Multiple types of intervention will be discussed, with the heaviest emphasis being placed on cognitive behavioral therapy. Participants will receive treatment materials they can utilize in their work with clients.
Learning objectives:

- Describe multiple evidence based treatments for gambling disorder;
- Utilize techniques from these treatments, particularly cognitive behavioral strategies;
- Become familiar with outcomes assessment strategies so as to be able to use them to track response to treatment.
